Sandra Farris Horton was a native of Chesapeake, Virginia, but spent her summers in Carroll County, Virginia. She taught herself to sew when she was in second grade and made most of her school clothes. She was always active in school art classes. Later, she sewed clothes for her family and also quilted. Sandra has an associates degree in drafting and design with architectural specialization and also an associates degree in registered nursing. She was employed at Pulaski Community Hospital as a Labor Nurse in the birthing center, and later at Joy Ranch until budget cuts removed the nurse’s position. At this time, her direction lay in pottery. She began Quilt House Pottery in 2008. Sandra’s pottery is on display at Carroll County Tourism Office, Hillsville, Virginia
