  • After teaching English in North Carolina high schools for over thirty years, Phyllis found a new career as playwright and actor. She brings her one-woman show “They Call Me Aunt Orlene”, the story of a Virginia midwife, to schools, retirement homes, museums, theaters and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Phyllis is also an award-winning author of two books of poetry “The Heart Knows” and “Walking The Gunnysack Trail”; a Mountain journey in Poetry. She has a master’s degree from Wake Forest University and her thesis was a novel entitled “Pictures From The Past Imperfect”. She and her husband divide their time between Lexington, North Carolina and Hillsville, Virginia. Their hobbies include nature study, travel, reading, gardening and crafts. Her books are located in the Carroll County Tourism Office in Hillsville, Virginia
