  • Peggy Mabe is a Carroll County native and was taught to knit, crochet, embroider and quilt by her mother. All her quilts are pieced and quilted by hand. Her sister and she grew up wearing dresses made out of “feed sack” material with left over material being used in quilts. Her mother would use lace, buttons, rick-rack and embroidery so they would look as pretty as “ones you could purchase in town”. That is why these items show up in her quilts today. All her pillowcases were embroidered with lace being sewn on edge. Growing up, she did these things because she had to, now she does them because she loves the finished item
