  • Kingsport native John Edgell has had a lifelong interest in photography, sparked by taking classes in high school.  He studied diesel mechanics at Tennessee Technical College in Elizabethton, but has turned back to the camera in recent years.  Largely self-taught with no formal arts education, John has been nurturing his talent in between working with his dad on the family farm.

He works in both digital and film formats, shooting in both when possible.  His photography focuses on old barns and buildings, landscapes, railroads, and agricultural and industrial scenes.  Through his work, he captures a sense of a dying era or times long past.  His fascination with antiques drives this, and he collects and restores old farm equipment on the side.  While most of his work features local scenery, he is always seeking new things to photograph and doesn’t limit himself to one geographic location.

John’s work can be found at Framed, Bristol, VA; Rusty Rooster, Mt. Airy, NC; Mike’s Trains, Tomasville, NC; and ETSU’s George L. Carter Railroad Museum, Johnson City, TN.
