Gayle Cooley grew up in Carroll County, Virginia on a family farm located along the Blue Ridge Parkway. She began her art career at the age of thirteen when she began experimenting with some oil paints left over from a paint-by-number kit. In the mid-60’s, she worked as a copy artist for Galax Mirror, Galax, Virginia, duplicating works of art for them. After an extended break from painting, she returned to her art in 2003, painting local scenes from the Blue Ridge. She is presently enjoying working on portraits, which opens a new field of interest. She exhibits her work at her home studio and also at “Something Different” in Mount Airy, North Carolina. She may be reached at 276-237-0720.
