Mid-Day Mountain Music – Scott Freeman & Willard Gayheart

October 25, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Scott Freeman and Friends are Thursday’s featured Mid-Day Mountain Music group at the Blue Ridge Music Center. Scott grew up in a rich musical area, better known as the home of Andy Griffith. Mount Airy is the home of many talented entertainers and Scott is one of Mayberry’s finest. As well as being a professional musician, he is also a traditional music teacher and musical instructor for Pete Wernick, a.k.a Dr. Banjo. Scott lends his talents to many groups from The McPeak Brothers, The Crowe Brothers, The Mountain Home Bluegrass Boys, and to countless other musicians who call on Scottto help out in whatever situation. Scott is joined every Thursday by Willard Gayheart, who may be better known off the stage for his pencil drawings of traditional mountain scenes and music. His music has been collected all over the world. Willard, is also a talented songwriter. He joins Scott on guitar and brings stories tell of his child home in eastern Kentucky. Get him to sing you a song about the Virginia beauty apple or about his Wayne Henderson guitar!

The sounds of the fiddle, banjo, and guitar are likely to welcome you when you visit the Blue Ridge Music Center open late May-October.

When you visit, you can experience regional traditional music each day of the week with Mid-Day Mountain Musicians on the breezeway of the visitors center where The Roots of American Music Museum—an entertaining exhibition highlighting the historical significance of the region’s music—is also located.
