Mid-Day Mountain Music – Buck Mountain Band @ Blue Ridge Music Center
May 6, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Midday Mountain Musicians since 2007, the Buck Mountain Band has entertained Blue Ridge Parkway visitors from all over the world with its spirited renditions of old-time mountain dance music and songs. Bob Taylor draws on a wide variety of sources for his fiddle tunes; Amy Boucher (banjo) and Harrol Blevins (guitar) add their singing voices to the lively mix. Other band members include Debbie Larson (bass), Sue Taylor (guitar and ukelele), and Dan Peck (guitar and banjo).
The band also plays at the Alleghany Jubilee in Sparta, North Carolina, at the Floyd Country Store in Floyd, Virginia, and at fiddlers’ conventions throughout the Virginia-North Carolina mountain region. Two CDs are in second printings and a third has just been released (2015).
The band’s name comes from the mountain in Grayson County near the home of two of its members, Bob and Sue Taylor, and from the name of the legendary Buck Mountain Band of 40 or 50 years ago that had as its core players banjo player Wade Ward and fiddler Charlie Higgins; the current group aims to keep alive the spirit of its forebears.
The sounds of the fiddle, banjo, and guitar are likely to welcome you when you visit the Blue Ridge Music Center open late May-October.
When you visit, you can experience regional traditional music each day of the week with Mid-Day Mountain Musicians on the breezeway of the visitors center where The Roots of American Music Museum—an entertaining exhibition highlighting the historical significance of the region’s music—is also located.
