4th Annual New River Valley Hike for Hospice

NRV Hike for Hospice
Good Samaritan Hospice’s 4th annual NRV Hike for Hospice is a community fundraiser which raises funds to support our extensive bereavement and grief counseling services offered throughout the New River Valley. The Hike for Hospice will include lunch, ice cream, a live Bluegrass band, games, fishing, vendors, a puppy kissing booth with Good Sam’s own therapy dog, four different group hikes at varying degrees of difficulty, and moment of reflection with a dove release.
Participants who pre-register in advance are guaranteed NRV Hike for Hospice t-shirts and hiking bags filled with gifts from our generous sponsors
EVENT DATE: Sunday, April 14th, 2019 EVENT TIME: 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm; Hikes start at varying times (see below) EVENT CENTRAL LOCATION: Claytor Lake State Park / Picnic Shelter 1 *Hikes will be led by Claytor Lake Park rangers!*
Easy Hike – .75 Mile Walk – Start Times: 2:15pm and 3:30pm This route leads participants down a lovely winding paved path following along the shore of the lake and around the historical Howe House. This easy hike is just under a mile long and will be a leisurely stroll allowing for you to take in the beautiful views offered at your own pace. The paved path is also ADA accessible and a good option for children and strollers.
Moderate Hike – 2.0 Mile Hike – Start Time: 2:45pm Join Mary Rhoades of the Native Plant Society on a hike through the woods to spot wildflowers at their peak bloom. This hike will take participants further up into the hilly terrain around the park. The route will begin on the Shady Ridge trail and transition to the Bent Tree and Poplar Leaf trails before returning back to Shelter #1. This hike will be over 2 miles.
Advanced Hike – 3.0 Mile Hike – Start Time: 2:15pm This hiking path will take participant further up into the hilly terrain around the lake. The route will at first follow the same path as the Moderate Hike but will then extend further along the Shady Ridge Trail as well as Bent Ridge Trail to offer participants a little over 2 mile hike.
