Courthouse Productions and Cherry Orchard Theater will present THE DEAD SPEAK Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 7 PM and Sunday, April 15, 2018 at 2 PM at the historic Carroll County Courthouse, Main Street, Hillsville, VA.
Much as in “Spoon River Anthology”, THE DEAD SPEAK presents poems in the form of dramatic monologues. These narratives, which explore the lives of the deceased, are spoken by Carroll County residents who now reside in local cemeteries.
In the play, the spirits of the dead Carroll County citizens materialize from a host of cemeteries around the county.
The time span encompasses roughly 200 years—from around 1810 to 2014 or so. Several of the dead lived in what was in their lifetime Grayson County, but in what is now Carroll. Come hear the stories of a Civil War captain, the longest-lived person in the county, the last person hanged in the county, and the “witch” who was born in a cave among others.
Tickets for the play which also includes dessert at the Hale-Wilkinson-Carter Home will be sold at the door in the courthouse. In order to plan for enough desserts, reservations are requested. You may contact the HWC Home at 276-728-5600 (Thursday and Friday 11 am to 4 pm and Saturday 11 am to 2 pm); or message or email Shelby Inscore-Puckett on Facebook or at firstname.lastname@example.org. The cost for the play and desserts is $15.
